Chief Smith joined KCPD as an officer in 1988. As he worked his way up the ranks, he has had
assignments in three different patrol divisions, the Robbery and Homicide Units, Tactical Response Teams, Planning and Research Division and served as the Kansas City No Violence Alliance's project manager prior to Major Mike Wood.
C. Mauli Agrawal was named Chancellor of UMKC in June 2018. Prior to his appointment Agrawal served
as the interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Agrawal had previously served as vice president for research and dean of the College of Engineering. He also has been a professor of orthopedics and bioengineering at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, one of the largest medical schools in the United States. He obtained a doctorate from Duke University in 1989, a master’s degree from Clemson University in 1985 and a bachelor’s degree of technology from IIT-Kanpur, India.
